What are NH's beliefs and theology?
We hold to orthodox Christian essentials, viewed and practiced through a Wesleyan theological lens.
Here are some short-takes:
- THE SCRIPTURES. We believe the Scriptures are inspired by God, authorative for faith and life, and contain everything necessary to understand and receive personal salvation through Jesus Christ.
- THE TRINITY. We believe in the Holy Trinity: One Being, expressed in Three Persons--the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
- JESUS CHRIST. We believe in the Divinity of Jesus Christ: He is fully God and fully human. He was with God in the beginning and presently rules and reigns at the right hand of God the Father.
- THE NATURE OF HUMAN BEINGS. We believe each of us are created in God's image, beloved of God, with the gift of dignity, purpose and sacred worth. We believe we are sinful from birth and separated from God. We believe our paramount need is reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- CHRIST'S CROSS. We believe Christ died in our place by taking our sin upon Himself and suffering the judgment of God in our place.
- RESURRECTION. We believe Christ was raised from the dead physically, bodily and eternally.
- SALVATION. We believe Christ is God's sole provision for eternal salvation. We believe salvation in Christ is God's free gift of grace. Salvation is not a result of our personal righteousness, but is freely received by personal faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone.
- THE NEW CREATION. We believe we are internally and eternally changed as we trust and receive Christ.
- THE HOLY SPIRIT. We believe the Holy Spirit is God's gift as we trust Christ, and indwells and supernaturally empowers individuals for godly and fruitful living.
- SANCTIFICATION. We believe in the life-long and continuing work of the Holy Spirit within Christ-followers as God makes us more and more like Jesus.
- CHRIST'S CHURCH. We believe Christ's Church includes all who trust and profess Jesus Christ as Lord, and includes believers from every nation, race, ethnicity, and cultural background.
- CHRIST'S CONTINUING MISSION. We believe Christ calls and compels all His followers to reach and help others come to faith in Christ and grow as Christ's followers.
- THE RETURN OF CHRIST. We trust Christ's promise to return, receive His people, redeem all of Creation, and rule over heaven and earth eternally.
- THE KINGDOM OF GOD. We believe the Kingdom of God is God's rule and reign among us and within us as Christ's followers, and will be fully realized upon Christ's return.
